*BLOOM

The goal of this project was to develop an interactive scoreboard that raises awareness of personally significant goals. After I identified one of my key character strengths, perseverance, I brainstormed goals that reinforced this characteristic. The theory: if my character strengths and virtues are motivated by using this design, my overall well-being will be enhanced.

After determining my goal to drink more water each day (something that I need perseverance to accomplish), I began brainstorming design ideas. I considered effectiveness and practicality as I thought through user flows. The scoreboard needed to fit into my everyday life (i.e. routine and surroundings), challenging me to design something that wouldn’t disrupt my personal environment, rather enhance it. I aimed to create something simple, beautiful, and stimulating.

Using Arduino, *Bloom tracks my goal progression in 30 day intervals. The push of a button triggers the Stepper Motor to raise the flower upward incrementally via threader and nut. The 3D printed flower mechanism was modeled in Rhino and the housing unit was laser cut and assembled.
